"Sun Shower" , oil on paper, 14 x 15

This type work comes out of getting tired of painting the green, green southeast. So I invented some scenery and colors just to break out of the mold.

"Sand Bank", oil on panel, 8 x 10

This is of the shoreline on the Greater Satilla River in south Georgia. The Satilla is steeped in tannins from the cypress trees there. It looks like very strong tea - a little disconcerting at first. And the first fish I pull up is not a trout but a gar. I thought it was prehistoric - not seen byy modern man ever and when my heart stopped pounding I was gonna make the cover of Time magazine for having found one. See below.

Yikes! To go to my store click here. The painting is $60. SOLD

"Maine's Coast", 12 x 16, oil on panel

I'm a little wistful about letting this one go. I painted this one on site. I really loved our painting trip in Maine and if you've been there then you'll recognize this shoreline.

Ft. Morgan Path, oil on panel, 8 x 10

SOLD
Still have laryngitis and feel as though the truck that hit me has now come to rest on my chest. But I've been going crazy not doing anything so I thought I'd try to paint a little today. This is from a photo taken on a beach trip with all my pals last spring.
Beginning price is just $30.

Running Fences, 12 x 16, oil on panel

SOLD
Every year around this time I get depressed. It is tax time and I have to pay inventory tax on all unsold work. Perhaps you'd like to help me offset this amount a little. I am going to periodically add a piece of work to this blog that I will put on eBay to sell lots less than retail. For instance, the bidding on this one will start at $10. The frame is included. Good luck.

"Pencil Shavings: Part Deux", oil on panel, 6 x 6

SOLD

I could do these all day. They are just the kind of thing I like, unpredictable, light and shadow, lots of parts instead of one or two objects. They are like little landscapes really.

Speaking of, here is my big one, the one I did the "movie" about. I delivered it yesterday to Bennett Street Gallery here in Atlanta. I am working on more large ones so that one won't be lonely.

Can you see the way that this resembles the daily painting above just a bit. Lots of elements build the entire picture. Some can be edited out of each, but without getting 'too busy', plenty of objects can strategically left in. That's just one example of artistic license. There were many more branches interrupting the view of the river. I just chose one I wanted to leave in to lend some reality to the image and to balance the finished product. By the same token, I didn't count and certainly didn't paint in every one of the chips of colored lead from the pencil. Put in just enough to tell the story.
Hope that wasn't too sophomoric. Maybe I just like to hear myself type.

"Eraser", oil on panel, 6 x 6

This is a well worn buddy of mine. Not the kind I usually use, found this one under a table in the studio. I like the green color though and the fact that the edges are not hard and straight like so much else in my studio. I guess being a landscape painter primarily I prefer the more irregular edges.

"Orange Gate" 18 x 14, oil on wood
This is a scene from the mountains in North Georgia. I am always drawn to a strong play of light and dark with a splash of color. The clearing skies from a summer storm help by adding the compliment color blue to play against the orange of the gate. I really like the depth I got in this painting.
