"Fly" 6 x 6 oil on panel

When I was small, I used to marvel at fly fishermen. I would use my regular angler pole and flip the line and lure and weight around all over the place. Wonder no one was killed.

Georgia Nagle, Ah-choo, 6 x 6, oil on panel,

Still like to paint those things around us everyday. And this glass back lit is fun. Starting to relax with this project finally. After all, I started it for my enjoyment and to work on my painting skills daily. In my career I find that so little of my time is spent actually painting. I spend a lot of time on the phone and doing paperwork and framing and photographing and buying supplies and now this...the internet! But I really do enjoy the challenge of it. Thanks for staying tuned.

Sweet Tea, oil on panel, 6 x 6

I deliver my work to Hanover Gallery tomorrow. So I may not get to post. But I will try. This was fun to do, I've done a series of iced tea scenes in the past. Good to get back to the familiar. had to wipe down two flower paintings before I came up with this. Uggh.

Stand Alone, oil on panel, 8 x 10

I am so slammed trying to finish up work for a show in Chattanooga. I had to go with something nearby but had to wipe down the first attempt. These tangerines look a lot like squash this year, pretty pale and blemished...kinda like me some days.

Now that spring has arrived here in Georgia, I believe I will do more flower paintings! I have so many vases here in the studio, I love painting glass.

Zola, oil on board, 6 x 6

This is a quick and gummy painting of our Brittany Spaniel, Zola, who has since moved on to the great backyard in the sky where I can only hope that no one minds that he barks incessantly. He was such a beautiful dog. # I did this painting as quickly and painterly as I could, I've been bogged down in detail a lot lately and it's not for me. I prefer the somewhat ambiguous mark making rather than recording every detail as a court reporter might. I prefer that the audience members be able to fill in the blanks with their own life experience.

Serenity, 6 x 6, oil on board

SOLD
I did this painting because I've been thinking about a friend of mine in the hospital. She is a warm and loving and spirited woman who I am grateful to have in my life. And I am confident that there are scores more who feel as I do. Get well, M, and quick!

Tangerines

O.K., hopefully I've got my ducks in a row and can start this again in earnest. I really wanted to see how well I could get these guys to look real. They are a bit on the blemished side but I guess that had to do with the freak frost Florida got recently. Anyway, it is good to be back. I have two shows in the next month or so but I will push on with this assignment. Thanks for looking.

Single Serving, 6 x 8, original oil

Another plum painting. I love the colors in a plum when strongly lit. Am going to the Aiken Steeplechase races this weekend. Won't be able to post for a few days. Can't wait to gather some photos of horses to paint from.

Yep, another "movie". I learned a lot from this, I took notes each time I took a picture. There was one point when I thought all was lost. But there is that moment in most any painting, isn't there? The ones who push on will often come up with a gem as long as their being honest. I know, boy do I know there are times to cut bait. I'm glad I didn't here.
I'll post my notes with each image in days to come.

Match Book

Another from life piece done in the studio. I really like these small pieces, ordinary things studied. Kind of the sort of thing we do when we're lost in thought. Study something you take for granted.

Darien

I believe I will make more movies like this. It is fascinating to me to see the evolution of this painting and I was there for the whole thing! Let me know what you think.

Goblet

SOLD

This is another I did with a friend. Great challenge and am liking my new limited palette. This has gotten me so charged up to paint, just what I needed, I was in a rut. Like the saying goes " If nothing changes, nothing changes". So I changed something.

Cantaloupe Tonight

Knock, knock. Who's there? Cantaloupe. Cantaloupe who? Cantaloupe tonight, gotta babysit. Painted with The 7. The weather was terrible so it was still lifes inside the whole time. Great to paint with the group, very motivating. We have a show in November!
